When I ask new clients about their health, many aren’t sure what to mention. They assume that as long as their bones and joints are intact, nothing else matters for training. But in reality, your overall health—including past injuries, medical conditions, and even the medications you take—plays a crucial role in making your practice safe and effective.
That’s why I’ve put together this guide to help you understand which health factors are important when starting yoga, movement, or breathwork training.
🩺 Chronic or Acute Conditions:
Cardiovascular Issues – high/low blood pressure, heart disease, recent heart surgery
Diabetes – type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes
Neurological Conditions – migraines, epilepsy, vertigo, history of strokes
Mental Health Conditions – anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, panic attacks
Respiratory Conditions – asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD
🦴 Musculoskeletal & Joint Issues:
Chronic Pain – lower back pain, sciatica, joint inflammation
Past Injuries – herniated discs, fractures, tendonitis
Arthritis or Rheumatism – osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis
Hypermobility or Joint Instability
🩸 Hormonal & Autoimmune Disorders:
Thyroid conditions – hypo-/hyperthyroidism
PCOS, Endometriosis
Autoimmune Diseases – lupus, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia
💊 Medications & Substances:
Strong Medications – antidepressants, painkillers, steroids, sedatives
Blood Thinners or Medication Affecting Blood Pressure
Hormonal Therapy – including contraceptive treatments
Substance Use – recreational drugs, recent detox/rehab

Current pregnancy (please indicate how many weeks)
Recent childbirth (past 6 months)
